Get Legal Help for Risperdal Breast Growth

Risperdal (or risperidone) is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, manic episodes, and certain behavioral problems. The drug was first approved by the FDA in 1993. Since that time, however, studies have revealed that Risperdal may strongly increase the risk of gynecomastia when administered to adolescents.
Gynecomastia is the growth of abnormally large breasts in male patients. Risperidone side effects like gynecomastia can be especially troubling for young males already confronting disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or autism. Risperdal lawsuits are now underway to compensate gynecomastia victims and their families.
Risperdal Lawsuits Now Pending
In September 2012, Johnson & Johnson, the company which manufactures Risperdal, paid the first reported gynecomastia lawsuit settlement. The 21-year-old plaintiff alleged that he developed breasts after taking prescription risperidone as a young child. The plaintiff was nine years old when he began Risperdal and complained of psychological trauma after growing breasts which required surgical removal.
The settlement followed shortly after an Arkansas judge in a separate proceeding ordered J&J to pay $1.2 billion in fines for improperly marketing Risperdal. Other states had already imposed hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties against J&J for its deceptive marketing practices, including claims that the company promoted Risperdal for use by children without regulatory approval.
The developing Risperdal litigation aims to compensate the boys and young adults who suffered unnecessarily from risperidone breast growth side effects.
